No increase in fare rates for LRT-2

There will be no fare rate hike for the new and soon to be partially operational Light Rail Transit – 2 (LRT-2) as assured by the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA).
Yesterday, March 13, the LRTA head Teodoro Cruz Jr. disclosed in a report that the fare for the LRT-2 will be the same as the operating LRT-1, having a flat rate of 12-pesos for every passenger.
The LRT-2, with its phase-1 to be completed by the end of this month, will partially operate to ferry commuters from Pasig City to Cubao in Quezon City starting April. Its second phase is said to be done by next year, 2004.
Meantime, commuters are ensured that the fare will not increase despite the current gloomy economic state of the country.
The stored value tickets (SVT) for the LRT-2 will also be available for 120-pesos. Senior citizens will likewise get their discount and could avail of the SVT for only 96-pesos.
As part of a grander plan on mass overhead rail transport, the MRT-3, LRT-1 and the LRT-2 will be interconnected in a loop with platform bridges for the interchange access of passengers. As to when this would materialize, we have years still to count.
