Extended Emergency Bay Stay
By Online Staff
Posted : 2/19/2010

The Metro Manila Development Authority extends the grace period given to motorists who have to use the emergency bays along EDSA when their vehicle suddenly breaks down.

The agency earlier allowed the emergency bays to be used for a maximum of 2 hours otherwise, MMDA accredited tow trucks will haul their vehicles and impound them to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Those who need to utilize the bays are now given three hours to fix their vehicles.

Meantime, MMDA Chair Oscar Inocentes is clearing the metro of fly by night tow trucks and stressed that even private towing companies are not accredited by the agency, including the ones authorized by local government units.

He adds that they are no longer allowed to enter the stretch of EDSA and if apprehended, the trucks will be impounded while owners and the crew will face charges of car theft.
