The Metro Manila Development Authority ordered the contractor of the Light Rail Transit Authority to clear its MRT 3 construction site of equipment, materials and debris by 6 am to ensure a smoother traffic flow along EDSA now that the so-called Christmas rush is here.
This is after the agency received complaints that the presence of heavy equipment has been a major cause of traffic congestion especially at the Roosevelt-Balintawak area along EDSA.
MMDA Traffic Operations Center head Angelito Vergel de Dios was able to see for himself the LRTA contractor DMCI First Balfour still working on the site at 6 in the morning last Thursday when they were supposed to clean up by that time.
The contractor was fined P20,000 but MMDA Chair Oscar Inocentes said he will be forced to impound all their heavy equipment involved in the project if they still fail to comply with the construction window hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
