It's All Systems Go for the Electric Jeeps

Starting July 1, commuters around Makati City can expect a new kind of ride- the environment friendly electricity run jeepneys.
The E-jeepneys will ply the Salcedo and Legaspi areas with an initial route of three kilometers.
The Makati City government says commuters can avail of the free ride for a week as it undergoes a test drive around the central business district.
The units, all imported from China, have five horsepower engines that can be charged just like one would charge a cellphone or a rechargable lamp for only 50 pesos, which is cheaper than buying a liter of gasoline or diesel.
